At Elsternwick Park Tennis Centre we have a tennis programme for any age.
Lesson Goals:
Our goal is for players to develop a love for tennis and still be playing tennis when they are 18. This means steady continual improvement, building friendships at tennis and having the choice to do more than just your weekly tennis lesson.
Progression:
We feel this is so important. There are many reasons but we believe that one of the most important characteristics for improvement is for players to be fully engaged in what they are doing. This happens when players are being appropriately challenged, if the “challenge” is too easy players lose interest and become bored, however, the converse is also true if the “challenge” is too hard players become overwhelmed and lose interest also.
Structure:
Keep it simple! - We don't try to over teach. Our coaches will teach players in their classes 1 or 2 skills per session that will then give them the chance to go and practice. Our lesson structure will see players going through 3 stages. 1) Feeding drills to work on specific shots, 2) Rallying drills to work on the skills and 3) competitive exercise to demonstrate scoring and match play. We understand that some players thrive in a fun, game-based environment, while others prefer focused, technical instruction throughout the entire session. Our coaches seamlessly blend both approaches to keep every junior engaged and progressing.
Pathway:
Our junior tennis program follows a carefully structured pathway designed to nurture each player's unique potential. Every class is standardized to ensure consistent quality and progression, while our experienced coaches expertly adapt their teaching approach to match each player's individual learning style and personality. What sets our pathway apart is our commitment to skill-based advancement - we don't hold players back based on age or time spent in a program. When a junior demonstrates the technical ability and court awareness required for the next ball progression (red to orange, orange to green, or green to yellow), we advance them early to ensure they're always challenged at the appropriate level. This individualized approach ensures optimal development, maintains motivation, and builds confidence as each player progresses through their tennis journey at their own pace.
